Could you be a Brent Samaritans volunteer?

Our listening volunteers carry out the very service that Samaritans is all about. They 'listen' through the phone, emails, letters, face-to-face or by text. They provide real help to the many people who contact the Samaritans each year. We urgently need people to train as listening volunteers and join our branch.

“The skills I've learned as a Samaritans volunteer have helped me more than I ever thought possible.”

The volunteers at Brent are a friendly, dedicated bunch. They come from many walks of life and all age groups. They are ordinary people, just like you, who have been trained in the very best ways to provide non-judgemental emotional support.

Offering one-to-one support to someone in distress is demanding, but very rewarding

When you join, you can count on all the help you'll need to get the most from your training. But it doesn't stop after that - throughout your time with us you can rely on full support both from your personal mentor and your colleagues. You're never left on your own to cope with a difficult situation.

The rewards of volunteering

  • You'll feel the satisfaction of doing something valuable for people in the local community and further afield.
  • You'll also be contributing your existing skills, learning new ones and finding others you didn't know you had.
  • You'll be part of a team of people that are motivated by the same goals as you - and your contribution will be valued by your colleagues.

Our ongoing training ensures that all volunteers are given the chance to refresh their skills

Please note:

You must be over 18 to train as a Samaritans volunteer.

Once you have completed your initial training, a Criminal Records Bureau check is a legal requirement, which must be completed before you can actively support callers.
